Oslo, European Green Capital 2019, hosts the Giulio Barbieri photovoltaic shelter

The renowned Norwegian company Move About has chosen the Pensilsole photovoltaic shelter for the creation of a charging station within the brand new hub dedicated to eco-sustainable mobility in Oslo, the hub of green innovation and European Green Capital 2019.

In Oslo, among the many green innovations, a new Mobilitetspunkt has been established, a hub for electric mobility curated by the Norwegian company Move About, where the Pensilsole photovoltaic shelter designed by Giulio Barbieri used as a charging station for electric vehicles is also among the protagonists.

In the first Oslo Mobility Hub founded in Filipstad near Aker Brygge, in the heart of the city, users subscribed to the Move About platform can have access to numerous charging points for their electric vehicles, such as bicycles, scooters and cars.

This project was made possible thanks to various Norwegian institutions, such as Ruter – the company that manages public transport in Oslo and Akershus in Norway – Statens vegvesen – Norwegian government agency responsible for national and regional public roads in Norway – and Bymilj’etaten Oslo Municipal – Agency for the urban environment Oslo municipal – as part of the “Smart Transport Oslo Region” initiative.

Who is Move About and what does it do?

Move About was founded in 2007 with the aim of providing users with practical and economical mobility that uses the least amount of energy, production resources and public space. To achieve this, a system has been developed that allows car sharing with electric cars.
Move About manages a public fleet of electric vehicles open to individuals and companies that need ecological mobility for short periods, also providing car sharing services. Move About is one of the largest fleets of electric cars in Norway to date.

Oslo, European Green Capital for 2019

Oslo has become a city that puts its inhabitants first: many areas of the center have now been closed to traffic, which means that the streets and squares have been filled with people enjoying a meal or a utepils in company (utepils is a Norwegian term that refers to a beer drunk in the open air) or who simply manage to make all the movements comfortably on foot or by car bicycle. The waterfront, which in the past was reserved for railway tracks and was mostly occupied by highways and containers, now has paths for pedestrians and cyclists between numerous city beaches and emerging neighbourhoods.

The head of communication of the city of Oslo Marianne Alfsen also said that this will be an opportunity to “give the inhabitants of Oslo and its visitors real moments of celebration“: throughout the year, in fact, the city has literally been coloured green and has been the ideal place for all those who want the world to become a better place.

Many of the official events organized in the Green Capital are riverside walks, activity days at the city lakes, wildflower safaris, and bee tours. Did you know that bees have a real highway dedicated to them to cross Oslo? The project was born in 2015 and is slowly developing to safeguard one of the most important insects for the maintenance of life on Earth.

The bee highway is a path that winds through the city: every 250 meters, in fact, on the roofs and balconies of the houses, there are pollen stations consisting of real flower pots that house and feed bees and hornets that, otherwise, would not be able to survive.

We are really proud to have been part of this project with our Pensilsole photovoltaic shelter in one of the most cutting-edge nations in terms of technological innovation and eco-sustainability.
